A Perfect Fall Day at the Arboretum
Cooler weather means it’s time to plan the perfect fall day at the Dallas Arboretum. This season’s events promise to put a smile on your loved ones’ faces. And in case you’re feeling a bit overwhelmed by all of our amazing events, we’ve put together an unbeatable autumn itinerary for you and your family.
Arriving at the Dallas Arboretum This Season
It definitely feels like fall as soon as you step through the gates, with thousands of pumpkins everywhere. One of the first gardens you will see as soon as you make your way through the piles of pumpkins in the entry plaza is our newest addition, A Tasteful Place. This herb & vegetable garden features views of downtown Dallas as well as free, daily tastings prepared with vegetables and ingredients from our own gardens.
If you don’t make it the first stop on your visit, be sure to head by when you’re feeling peckish. If you plan ahead, you can even take one of our cooking classes or see a cooking demo (tastings included – info on cooking classes here) Keep your phone handy as you cross the bridge along the Margaret and Jay Simmons Lagoon – the views are definitely Instagram-worthy.
Seasonal Sites Along the Arboretum’s Winding Pathways
Continue along the path by Jonsson Color Garden and you’ll enjoy a view of two gazebos in our 12 Days of Christmas exhibit. These 25-foot Victorian style gazebos filled with the charming costumed characters, whimsical animals and music made famous by the beloved Christmas carol – so they make for great family selfies.
If you keep walking, you’ll end up at A Woman’s Garden. This poetic, 1.8-acre formal garden consist of two gardens that features lots of beautiful imagery, including an infinity pool, beautiful architecture, fountains, and a view of White Rock Lake.
Eating Lunch at the Dallas Arboretum
It’s lunch time! Hopefully you build up an appetite. A meal outside at Restaurant DeGolyer is a true treat. Live music and the gentle breeze in the trees will help you relax before you continue exploring our 66-acre gardens.
Autumn and Winter Festivals
The Arboretum is known for our showstopping fall pumpkin displays, and this year’s Pumpkin Village is no exception. Showcasing the theme The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, this may be our best pumpkin display ever. Our horticulture team went all out, and their imaginative reconstruction of this cherished tale using 90,000 pumpkins, squash and gourds really showcases their design expertise, as well as the versatility of the pumpkin

If you’re ready to call it a day, you’ll still get to enjoy two more 12 Days of Christmas gazebos on your way to the exit. No matter how much you enjoy it, you’ll want to plan a visit to the 12 Days of Christmas at Night, when the garden lights up with over 500,000 holiday lights and unique evening activities for the whole family.
