The Dallas Arboretum Receives Award For Outstanding Video
Not only does the Rory Meyers Children’s Adventure Garden add unprecedented beauty to the Dallas Arboretum and draw visitors from all over the map with its educational initiatives, but it is now also being recognized by the communications industry.
The Dallas Arboretum has been honored with the Garden Writers Association (GWA) Silver Award of Achievement for the video “Dallas Arboretum Opens Scientific Rory Meyers Children’s Adventure Garden.” produced by Bandana Media. A huge accolade in the industry, a Garden Writers Association Media Award signifies excellence in print or electronic gardening communication created by the very best writers, photographers, editors, publishers and trade companies. Simply put, it’s for the best of the best.
“The Media Award winners have been judged by industry experts and show significant distinction and merits that exemplify exceptional work,” said Larry Hodgson, president of GWA, an international organization representing more than 1,400 communicators in the lawn and garden industry.
Since it opened in the fall of 2013, the eight-acre Children’s Garden has been a sightseeing destination in Dallas for droves of out-of-town visitors as well as locals. The Arboretum’s superb video depicts the sheer beauty of the garden’s backdrop near White Rock Lake, plus families and children who have experienced the innovative curriculum for earth and life science at the Children’s Garden.
The GWA Media Awards program has recognized outstanding writing, photography, graphic design and illustration for books, newspaper stories, magazine articles and other works focused on gardening since the 1980s. The organization has expanded in recent years to reward excellence in on-air talent, production and direction for radio, television, video, the web and other electronic media.
The Arboretum saw some stiff competition for this award, including the New York Times, KPBS public television, the Kansas City-Star and Country Gardens, as you can see from this list of 2014 GWA Media Award winners.
