Honor Our Military Heroes at the Arboretum this Memorial Day
While many families leave town for Memorial Day weekend, we invite you to an in-town holiday at the Dallas Arboretum, honoring our servicemen and women. Our Memorial Day activities are a celebration of patriotism, but they also mark the beginning of summer happenings at the Arboretum. Here’s what’s going on in the gardens:
Friday, May 23, through Monday, May 26, bring friends and family who are active duty or retired from the armed forces (with valid photo ID) to the Arboretum for free! Enjoy a proud display of American flags with the sounds of patriotic music echoing in the background. For the little ones, there is a petting zoo and face painting area in Pecan Grove.
Monday, May 26 (Memorial Day), the celebration ramps up with cheap eats and free concerts for all. Of course, admission for retired and current military with a photo ID is still free in appreciation of our armed forces. Any guest can buy $1 hot dogs, bags of popcorn and assorted fried pies. Enjoy a patriotic picnic on the Martin Rutchik Concert Lawn and catch one (or both) of the free Eddie Coker concerts sponsored by Dallas Child. Coker, who is a children’s singer/songwriter, is performing at 11AM and 2PM.
As always, you’re free to bring along your own picnic lunch or pop into the Children’s Adventure Garden Café by Two Sisters, open until 4PM each day. Grab a table outside and choose from the cafe’s menu of sandwiches, chicken tenders, pizza, quesadillas, hummus, fresh fruit, salads, crust-less PB&Js and more before heading to the concert lawn.
The Arboretum’s Memorial Day events are a perfect segue into the full schedule of Family Fun Fridays offered this summer. From June 6 to July 25, bring your family to the gardens for face painting, a petting zoo and more each Friday. It’s also a great opportunity to experience the Rory Meyers Children’s Adventure Garden, a fun and informative destination for all ages. Family Fun Fridays lead right into August Dollar Days, when general admission is just $1 during the summer.
