Visit the Dallas Arboretum for Labor Day Weekend Festivities
The best part about summer coming to an end is Labor Day, a three-day weekend to help cushion the blow of having to go back to school and to tide everyone over until Thanksgiving hits. In celebration of this extended weekend, the Dallas Arboretum has plenty of events and discounts for the entire family to keep them smiling until November gets here.
Kick off the long weekend with our first Fall Cool Thursdays Concert, featuring The Doobie Brother’s tribute band, China Grove, Thursday, September 3, from 7 – 9PM. Enjoy songs that span the many decades and styles of the legendary California group, like “Long Train Runnin” and “Takin’ it to the Streets.” We’ll have food trucks on site for those hungry dancers, and allow attendees to pack their own picnic baskets, coolers and blankets for the show.
In the internationally acclaimed Rory Meyers Children’s Adventure Garden, the Moody Oasis is the place to “bee” from9AM to noon on Saturday, September 5. Your family can explore the inner workings of a honeybee hive with Scott the Beekeeper and find answers to questions such as, “Why do honeybees make honey, and why are they so important?” Guests will also be invited to create and design a special hands-on project with the Home Depot team at 10AMon Sunday, September 6. One of the many floral displays on view in the main garden is the Crepe Myrtle Allee, whose delicate crimson petals will be cascading down during the first weeks of September. As summer comes to a close, bright spots of marigolds, dahlias and black-eyed susans appear throughout the garden, creating the quintessential setting for an afternoon picnic and, according to Forbes Travel Guide, one of “The Best Ways to Do Dallas Outdoors.”
We’re bringing the Texas Storybook Flower Village to life! Guests are invited to the shady Pecan Grove from 10AM to 2PMMonday, September 7, for special activities, including a petting zoo, live music and a red, white and blue stroller parade with special prizes awarded. Music by John Lefler and Camille Cortinas, a favorite during our first Garden Gigs, will play guitar under the shade of Pecan Grove from 11AM to 12:30PM. And don’t forget to stop by the Terrace Café, where you can cool down with free popsicles
All this Labor Day fun comes at a discount, too! From September 4 to 7, admission to the Dallas Arboretum is discounted to $5 per person, including admission to the Rory Meyers Children’s Adventure Garden. Tickets can only be purchased at the gate to receive this special offer. Discounted parking is also available for $8 when purchased in advance online.
